McDougall Minerals sells high-quality mineral specimens from all over the world at fair prices to collectors of all levels, from beginners to connoisseurs. The website includes news about recent finds and shows, learning resources, articles and photographs, and adventures to mineral localities.I have been deeply involved in the world of minerals and mining for the last 25 years, having acquired and dealt in thousands of mineral specimens (many acquired directly from the source and also personally collected). When it comes to mineral specimens themselves, I care most about three things: quality, aesthetics and the interesting-unusual.My prior career included 18 years with a top Canadian firm, where excellent, professional, responsive client service and client relationships were fundamental to our success, and I am happy to bring this same approach to McDougall Minerals. The goal of McDougall Minerals – what makes me tick these days – is to bring you the best I can in mineral specimens from all over the world, to help you enjoy the world of minerals and build the collection you want to build. I hope you will find our website interesting and fun to read – and hopefully you will find mineral specimens for your collection.
Location: Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Brazil
Size: 7.5 x 7.2 x 2.5 cm
Item #: 100524
Comments: This is an exquisite specimen. It is top quality, the main crystal (3.4 cm) has super colour and the aesthetics of the brazilianite crystals perched selectively along the edges of the large albite crystal make this a special, distinctive piece. It was brought out in 2001, among a large lot of these produced in the early heyday at the locality, and was my single favourite of the entire lot. The main crystal has beautiful internal sparkle.
In exceptional condition – pristine to the naked eye from the front and all around, except looking from the reverse side one of the small crystals has a tip missing, and there is a tiny chip in the main one that can be found with magnification, but absolutely no issue, at any level of collecting. This is a top quality specimen worthy of a top calibre collection.
World famous collector Steven Smale wrote in his book (The Smale Collection (Lithographie LLC, 2006)) about the “horizon” – where the upper edge of the specimen meets the “sky”, as he put it. For him, this is the most important part of a mineral specimen, and he characterized a specimen with damage-free crystals across its horizon as the “gold standard”. This specimen has a fantastic horizon – it is exemplary.
Exceptional display specimens of brazilianite have been found only in Brazil, and most of those have been produced in from the pegmatites intruded into the mica schists in the region of the Lavra do Corrego Frio, the type locality for brazilianite. The Lavra do Telirio is one of these deposits. It has now been closed down, as environmental regulators deemed it too close to the river to be operated. It is expected that there will be no further mining at the Telirio.
Location: Shigar Valley, Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
Size: 6.5 cm x 5 cm
Item #: AA08
Comments: Group of prismatic crystals of Aquamarine very well formed, with very defined faces and edges. Hexagonal crystals of nice color, good gloss and transparent. With crystals of Muscovite. Exemplary very aesthetic, much better in person.
Location: Sierra Madre area (So. Calif.)
Weight: 5.8 Oz
Comments: Rhodonite Slab from the Sierra Madre area (So. Calif.) Slab. Weighs about 5.8 Oz and measures about 4.25″ x 4.0″ x .232″ thick or 5.89 MM Thick. This is from an old rock collection from 1930’s to early 1970’s. Photographed wet and slabs are at an angle to stop some glare so slabs in pictures look smaller. The black line is a potential crack.
There are always lots of “clearance” items posted!
Location: Chebka sidi Said, Midelt, Khenifra Province, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Size: 7.2 x 5.6 x 3.1 cm (small cabinet) – Largest Crystal: 1.1 cm
Item #: TUC31719
Comments: A rarity for Fluorite, especially from Morocco. This piece hosts dozens of sharp, well-formed, gemmy, golden cubic Fluorite crystals which measure up to 1.1 cm, but the most interesting aspect of the piece is that the Fluorites are included with small silvery crystals of Galena sitting on Quartz matrix. There are also some Galena crystals ON the Fluorites, so they obviously formed in tandem, but the fact that you can distinctly see actual Galena crystals inside of Fluorite is rare in my experience. I can remember seeing Galena and Fluorite combos from the English lead mines, but not quite in the same style as this piece. If you collect Fluorites, this is a unique novelty that would be worth adding to your collection.

Comments: A gorgeous example of tourmaline from this classic Brazilian locale!!! This specimen consists of a sharp, complete, gemmy crystal of tourmaline that exhibits a fantastic range of colors!!! This specimen has a mint green zone at the termination followed by a zone of pink and then a large zone of blue!!! This crystal has a complexly modified termination with velveteen luster and the prism faces have brilliantly glassy luster!!! The crystal has gemmy clarity and lively play of light within!!! In person, this specimen’s color is simply gorgeous!!! This specimen is complete and undamaged all around!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!

Item #: IRC1711
Comments: White reticulated cerussite. Really gorgeous and fine. The crystals are shiny and well formed and finished. This mine offers several teardrops, this is one of the best. Among the cerussite crystals, and on the back, there are small crystals of orange wulfenite. The general conditions of the sample are more than excellent.

Item #: 0717050
Location: Uchucchacua Mine, Oyon, Lima, Peru

Item #: csrhodo111
Comments: Well formed Rhodochrosite crystals on a very aesthetic specimen. No damages.
Location: Searles Lake, San Bernardino Co., California
Size: 11 x 6.8 x 5 cm
Item #: 5110
Comments: A mass of pink colored Halite crystals. The colors on one side of the specimen are much larger than the other. The larger crystals have a well defined hopper habit. The color is due to the presence of Algae and can fade with time. The color on this specimen appears to be holding up pretty well.

My name is Marco Macchieraldo, I’m an Italian mineral collector and live in Torino, a big town in the north of Italy near the Alps mountains. I was born in 1959 and collect minerals since 1985. I’m member of the Associazione Piemontese di Mineralogia e Paleontologia (A.P.M.P.). I created this site to show some of the best specimens from my private collection, to public my trade lists of minerals with photographs and to exchange experiences with other collectors.
We are one of India’s oldest mineral dealers, our roots go back to 1953. At that time, we were one of the few dealers in India exporting zeolites. We have been mining since 1970, and in 1977 we mined the famous ‘Poona green apophyllite’ from our own quarry at the ‘Pashan Hill’ in Pune, India.
We have progressively mined green apophyllite, scolecite and cavansite from our own sites in Maharashtra, India and hence, we have access to the top grade, the medium and the low grade of these minerals.
Today we are a major mineral company exporting zeolites from the Deccan Traps, and various minerals from India to all corners of the world.
We attend the Tucson and the Munich Show every year.
As a German mineralogist I spent over 12 years (from 1988 to 2000) in Mexico, where I worked as a geologist in precious metal exploration. Currently I am living in Germany, however I travel to Mexico several times per year, sometimes because I perform a short working contract, but my principal interest is the search of mineral specimens.
Most of the minerals I offer have been purchased directly from the mine personnel, but from time to time I also have the possibility to collect minerals by myself. Although there exist uncountable possibilities to collect minerals in the field or in abandoned mining districts, over 80% of the top quality mineral specimens from Mexico are recovered from active mines. Unfortunately many mines have closed or have reduced their production in the last few years due to extremely low metal prices in the world market, consequently it is getting more and more difficult to find this high quality. Nevertheless I will continue with my efforts in exploring Mexico for the finest mineral specimens. You will find major updates after each Mexico trip and generally the new top specimens appear first on this web page, before I offer them for sale in the mineral shows. I hope you enjoy my mineral galleries.
