Tsumeb Fine Minerals
Rudolf grew up in a mineral collecting family and got captivated by the beauty of minerals at an early age. Especially the truly outstanding Alpine Mineral Collection of his father Anton Watzl Sen. (also an renowned minerals photographer!) posed an ideal and encouragement for further development. Rudolfs first collection mainly consisted of self-collected specimens from the Austrian Alp, great iron roses to be some of its most striking. To this day it grew to a impressive collection of finest minerals from the worlds best localities.
Featured Item: Fluorite
Location: Annaberg, Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany
Size: 5.5 x 4.7 x 2.7 cm
Item #: SO102
Comments: The unusual color combination of this aesthetic fluorite specimen is quite intriguing especially when lit from the back which brings out the intensive purple phantoms that rest inside these honey-yellow fluorite cubes. This is a formation of several stacked cubes of fine translucent quality. The sides are contacted but not broken. The bottom is re-healed. There is one single chip at the larger crystal but which does not distract from the great visual impact of this piece. At the faces of the fluorite you will find tiny metallic grains, presumably chalcopyrite. Remarkable crystal size, appealing composition and stunning colors are combined to this amazing and exceptional piece.
Featured Item: Barite
Location: Meikle Mine, Bootstrap District, Elko Co., Nevada
Size: 19 x 13 cm Overall
Item #: S18433
Comments: A complex, heavily crystallized, 7-inch plate of barite, with crystals up to 4 cm piled on top. Crystals are basically pure golden yellow “windowpanes” but have contrasting patches of clearly visible underlying black matrix. Nearly perfect, this specimen is impressive, flashy and especially fine in every respect.
Featured Item: Elbaite (Tourmaline)
Location: Escondido Mine, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 12.5 x 9.6 x 6 cm
Item #: elb1772
Comments: A brilliant array of pencil-like green Elbaite crystals are artfully arranged on a matrix of clear Quartz crystals and Microcline. The longest crystal is over 6 cm. and many are double-terminated. More impressive in person than the photos would suggest. Ex. Keith Proctor, ex. Scott Rudolph.
Our company principals have two generations of experience in collecting, dealing, and appraising fine mineral specimens found in Spain and overseas. Apart from offering some of the world’s best fine mineral specimens to the natural art collector, the company is proud to continue its support to one of the best private mineral collections of Spain, the Fernandez Buelga Natural Art Collection.
Our selection of fine minerals
The selection of our fine mineral specimens is principally based on aesthetics, with parameters like color, balance or crystal quality of paramount importance for us. Secondly, because we can not hide our scientific background, we very much enjoy offering to our customers rare localities, weird crystallizations and other mineralogical oddities. But our eyes are always looking for the highest beauty.
As mineral collecting moves from an uncommon hobby to an emerging cultural asset class, Spanish Minerals commits to offer our clients, not only fine mineral specimens, but also professional advice for the novice as well as the experienced natural art collector.

The notion of mounted minerals began in the fall of 1984 when Bill and Elsie Stone, owners of the Sunnywood Collection wanted to display several large specimens from their mineral collection in the living room. The specimens were large enough that they might damage the furniture. They decided to construct a custom base out of hardwood to hold the specimens in a stable but artistic position. From the first mounted specimens came The Sunnywood Collection, providing museum quality mineral and fossil specimens from world-wide localities and carvings from Brazil. All specimens from The Sunnywood Collection are mounted on either exotic or domestic hardwoods or acrylic bases.

In the past several years I have seen too many new dealers enter the market who know little to nothing about crystallography, petrology, chemistry or any of the basic fundamentals of mineralogy. At shows more than half the dealers simply put rocks out on a table or shelf with no pricing, no identification, or locality information. I have seen other dealers continue to push specimens to seemingly arbitrary pricing levels with the belief that there is always someone out there who will think that a high price is equal to high quality. This is an unhealthy trend in this hobby and one that needs to be addressed in some way by the mineral collecting community.I have been a mineral collector since the mid 1970s and have seen the pricing for minerals expand at a rate that is unsupportable over the long term. My basic philosophy for pricing specimens is to ensure that when you open the box you feel as though you have received value for your purchase.
