Saphira Minerals
Our company, located in the beautiful and historic town of Freistadt, Austria, specializes in purchase and selling of high quality mineral specimens from all localities of the world. After years of experience as sole trader and joint partner of Watzl Minerals, Rudolf Watzl started his own enterprise in early 2013 to advance his own notion of trading fine and rare minerals for ambitious collectors.
Rudolf grew up in a mineral collecting family and got captivated by the beauty of minerals at an early age. Especially the truly outstanding Alpine Mineral Collection of his father Anton Watzl Sen. (also an renowned minerals photographer!) posed an ideal and encouragement for further development. Rudolfs first collection mainly consisted of self-collected specimens from the Austrian Alp, great iron roses to be some of its most striking. To this day it grew to a impressive collection of finest minerals from the worlds best localities.

Featured Item: Quartz included Fuchsite

Location: Iovitra Mine, Itremo Massif, Fianarantsoa Province, Madagascar
Size: 11.1 x 7.4 x 5 cm
Item #: TB17
Comments: Certainly the best specimens of fuchsite in quartz are from Ihovitra and this specimen is honestly the most elegant and striking I have seen to date! It is appealing in size and displays the most distinct, best-colored fuchsite phantoms in glassy and sharp quartz crystals. The arrangement is pure textbook with an amazing and very catchy outline! There is hardly any scratch here, a broken side-crystal is long re-healed and not easily visibly anyway. A rare and exceptional piece of intensive green color – the chromium of this muscovite variety does its work nicely – and great aesthetics shows fuchsite at its most attractive!

Andy Seibel Fine Minerals

Featured Item:   Brazilianite with Microcline

Location: Telirio Claim, Linopolis, Doce Valley, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Size: 2.3 x 2.3 cm
Item #: S18645
Comments: This specimen of brazilianite is mostly gemmy and aesthetically compacted into a 2.3 x 2.3 cm thumbnail. The V-shaped formation is the most interesting feature of this specimen, with lots of eye appeal for a thumb.

Fine minerals have been the focus of Spanish Minerals since 2003. As our company name suggests, we are specialists in fine mineral specimens from Spain. However, we deal in worldwide fine minerals as well. After all these years, we are proud of having among our customers important Natural History museums, some of the best international mineral dealers and well known private natural art collectors all over the world.
Our company principals have two generations of experience in collecting, dealing, and appraising fine mineral specimens found in Spain and overseas. Apart from offering some of the world’s best fine mineral specimens to the natural art collector, the company is proud to continue its support to one of the best private mineral collections of Spain, the Fernandez Buelga Natural Art Collection.

Our selection of fine minerals
The selection of our fine mineral specimens is principally based on aesthetics, with parameters like color, balance or crystal quality of paramount importance for us. Secondly, because we can not hide our scientific background, we very much enjoy offering to our customers rare localities, weird crystallizations and other mineralogical oddities. But our eyes are always looking for the highest beauty.

As mineral collecting moves from an uncommon hobby to an emerging cultural asset class, Spanish Minerals commits to offer our clients, not only fine mineral specimens, but also professional advice for the novice as well as the experienced natural art collector.

Minerals and geology form the bedrock of our lives. For many years we have sifted through Poland, Europe and, indeed, the whole world, in search of interesting geological phenomena, such as volcanoes and glaciers. The discovery of minerals is of prime importance to us. Last year was particularly active, with voyages to the Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, India, Russia, Turkey, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan and Madagascar. The resulting science articles, exhibitions and specimens are the provenance of our Geological Society, known as ‘Spirifer’. Between voyages for Spirifer, we are students passionate about our work. Spirifer is a non-profit organization based solely on volunteer-ism. Its main purpose is Earth science education. We compose and publish the only periodical in Poland for minerals collectors; it is called ‘Otoczak’ (www.spirifer.most.org.pl/otoczak/). We also organize minerals exchanges, exhibitions, shows (www.mineraly.waw.pl), as well as provide organized weekly educational lessons to children (www.pracownia.spirifer.org).

Featured Item: BluePurple TANZANITE

Location: Arusha Region, Tanzania
Size: 1.4″ x 0.6″ x 0.5″
Item #:  EB0913TANZ1
Comments: Here’s a 100% natural, untreated crystal of TANZANITE. The color is outstanding – a vibrant cornflower blue that is luminous and riveting. When turned to the side, the color changes to a fascinating violet purple-blue hue, due to the phenomenon of dichroism. This is a superb example of a tanzanite crystal for the size and price. It was taken out of the local miners’ concession at Merelani Hills, Umba Valley, Lelatema Mountains, Arusha Region, Tanzania. I am always on the lookout for high quality, reasonably priced tanzanite crystals. Naturally I was delighted to discover this and a few other good ones at the Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines Gem, Rock & Mineral Show in the room of a dealer who visits Tanzania several times a year.

The Sunnywood Collection

The notion of mounted minerals began in the fall of 1984 when Bill and Elsie Stone, owners of the Sunnywood Collection wanted to display several large specimens from their mineral collection in the living room. The specimens were large enough that they might damage the furniture. They decided to construct a custom base out of hardwood to hold the specimens in a stable but artistic position. From the first mounted specimens came The Sunnywood Collection, providing museum quality mineral and fossil specimens from world-wide localities and carvings from Brazil. All specimens from The Sunnywood Collection are mounted on either exotic or domestic hardwoods or acrylic bases.

Trinity Mineral Co.

In the past several years I have seen too many new dealers enter the market who know little to nothing about crystallography, petrology, chemistry or any of the basic fundamentals of mineralogy. At shows more than half the dealers simply put rocks out on a table or shelf with no pricing, no identification, or locality information. I have seen other dealers continue to push specimens to seemingly arbitrary pricing levels with the belief that there is always someone out there who will think that a high price is equal to high quality. This is an unhealthy trend in this hobby and one that needs to be addressed in some way by the mineral collecting community.I have been a mineral collector since the mid 1970s and have seen the pricing for minerals expand at a rate that is unsupportable over the long term. My basic philosophy for pricing specimens is to ensure that when you open the box you feel as though you have received value for your purchase.
