Perhaps better-kknown for their world-class iron and native copper deposits, the ancient precambrian rocks that border lake superior also host deposits of both common and unique gems minerals. In addition to those shown here, the area is also famous for its jaspilite and kona dolomite, as well as less common gem materials such as pink prehnite and mohawkite.
