Edwards Minerals

I have been collecting since 1966 - starting at the ripe old age of six! I originally collected pyrites and Herkimer diamonds as I lived in Western New York until I was 13. Now, I collect old German and Italian specimens and rare faceted gemstones. You can see some pictures of my collection in my photo gallery. In addition to my collecting experience, I have a Graduate Gemologist degree from the GIA.

My philosophy is simple. I endeavor to offer quality specimens in all price ranges. I try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible. My descriptions, locality information, and photos are as accurate as I can make them. And I value customer service - I will try to answer all inquiries as quickly as possible, whether about my offerings or about mineral collecting and gemology in general.

Exceptional Minerals

Welcome to Exceptional Minerals! I actually have two websites - The Mineral Gallery and Exceptional Minerals, and both are devoted to finding and offering the finest mineral specimens available on the internet. Having studied both Geology and Graphic Design in college, I find minerals scientifically fascinating as well as artistically beautiful and attempt to take the most accurate, detailed photographs possible to capture this natural beauty for all to see. Many of these photographs have been used in magazines and publications over the years and this is something I take great pride in.

The updates at Exceptional Minerals are many and often! They are comprised of mineral rooms catagorized according to their specific mineral show. Updates from the Tucson Mineral Show and Denver Mineral Show appear alongside updates from smaller shows or collections. I invite everyone to e-mail me at kward@themineralgallery.com and ask to be added to my e-mailing list for website updates. In the meantime, please visit the website and browse through the latest offerings of fine mineral specimens. You might find something for your own collection.

Featured Item: Gemmy Beryl var. Heliodor (Yellowish-Green Beryl) on Quartz matrix
Exceptional Minerals Featured Item Location: South Royalston, Worcester County, Massachusetts

Size: 6.8 by 6.6 cm by 4.1 cm

Item #: EM-9

Ex. Johansson (1949), Marvin Rausch Mineral Collections Currently in the Kevin Ward Personal Collection

Comments: Definately the finest Massachusetts Beryl I've seen in many years! This glassy crystal is doubly terminated and measures 4 cm in length by 1.7 cm in width! I'm calling it a Heliodor although it does tilt towards the greener side of the Heliodor scale. The matrix is a grainy Quartz which provides the perfect contrast to the Beryl in both color and surface texture. The provenance with this specimen dates back to 1949 but it's possible that the specimen is even older. Beryls of this quality from the east coast are very rare.

Fabre Minerals

Fabre Minerals specialize in high quality mineral specimens from Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, China, Rumania, the USA, and other worldwide localities. It is managed by me: Jordi Fabre (for your information Jordi is Catalan for George.)

I started in the mineral business over 30 years ago, sharing the work with my studies in Biology as well as with a other job: printer. In those very busy days I mainly sold quality Spanish, Portuguese, and Moroccan specimens. This was all done with the help of my brother Francesc, and it involved taking life as a pleasant game, full of nice trips and unusual situations as I followed the trails of the wild deals with the just as wild miners.

So, something that was started just as a hobby that I shared with my passion for trips has grown slowly until now, while still young, I have behind me a lot of deals, a lot of experiences, a lot of knowledge, and, best of all, a lot of friends. All together this has helped me to obtain more and better specimens from my classic sources as well as from other new sources, such as the private collections that I acquire as often as I can, or from new finds that I get from the people working for me in mines, thus trying to select "on the ground" the main novelties. Also I get from time to time some extremely unusual specimens due my good relationships with several significant Museums, the only practical source for some extremely scarce specimens.

As I have always had an interest in the more scientific aspects of Mineralogy I have also published articles in various journals and web sites. These include the Mineralogical Record (Fluorite and associated minerals from Asturias, Spain, Volume 23, pages 69-76 - Internet Mineral Sales, Volume 37, pages 199-201), Bocamina, Revista de Minerales and others.

Probably due to all this history and knowledge Fabre Mineral specimens are frequently mentioned and photographed for their quality and mineralogical interest in books and magazines such as The Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Le Règne Minéral, Minéraux et Fossiles, Lapis, Mineralien Welt, Rivista Mineralogica Italiana, Revista de Minerales, UK Journal of Mines and Minerals...

In 1996 attracted by the Internet technology I started my own web site. It was really one of the first of the worldwide Internet dealer web sites aimed at selling mineral specimens on-line, and clearly the pioneer of the European Internet dealers. When I started it I just considered it to be a complement to my regular sales, but it grew more and more, becoming nowadays one of the more important sources of sales.
So on the Web you will find our latest selection of quality collector specimens, all of which are for sale. These pages currently represent a good sample of our more interesting stock.

We have provided information on specimens from around the world for collectors searching for high quality additions to their collections.

Pre-Tucson Update from Fabre Minerals
---------------------------------------------------
This is our last update before the Tucson Show, where we will be showing in our InnSuites room (#164) between Friday January 30 and Friday February 13. If you wish more details please use this link: http://www.fabreminerals.com/expo/Tucson/2009/Mailing-Tucson-2009_EN.php

This new update features one of our highlights for Tucson 2009, the Silvane collection. Here we offer 24 specimens from this collection, some of them great, like the Chrysoberyl, the Morenci Malachite and the Sperrylite. The other 21 specimens from this update are also very attractive, some of them coming from different collections like the Barite from the Sherman Mine, the Sphalerite from the Emperius Mine and the crystallized Talc from Trimouns. Or they are unusual, like the Beryllonite, Arfvedsonite, Franckeite, Cafarsite, and Botallackite...many uncommon species, with good quality and reasonably priced, as is our customary practice. Joseph A. Freilich LLC

As a collector with 35 years of experience in mineral collecting, and a career in the diamond and gemstone business, a natural next step for me was to start buying and selling minerals. One must consider themselves fortunate to be able to deal with friends and associates in a hobby which brings such magnificent rewards. Mineral collecting is all encompassing: we read about it, dream about it, visit the museums and galleries, share our collections with friends and attend the numerous annual events which bring us all together in exotic locations.

When I hired David P. Wilber in late 1997, and gave him the contract to build a world class collection, little did I know the extraordinary levels of pleasure that this association with the " grand master of mineralogy" would bring to my life. I sat by his side as a willing and knowledge thirsty student, and Dave taught me the fine points of collection building that few would ever have the opportunity to learn. Impeccable taste, superb instincts and vast knowledge mark the attributes of this great man, to whom I will always be grateful.

So, with the launch of this new website, I hope to bring the seasoned collector, and those young ( or not so young) beginners in mineral collecting, the consummate knowledge and experience that my many years in the hobby has instilled in me.

Featured Item: Spodumene with smokey quartz
Location: Mawi, Laghman Province, Afganistan

Size: 12.6 cm

Comments: The top quality spodumene specimens in the world, without a doubt, are from Afganistan. This piece is particularly special. The spodumene, itself, has a bright, glowing, gold hue, with a profoundly massive termination. Accompanying the spodumene are two, separate pieces of smokey quartz. The larger of the two smokey quartz pieces is what really sets this specimen apart from any other spodumene matrix specimen that I have seen. This larger smokey quartz is a piece of beta quartz! Beta quartz is rare, in itself, but to see such a large example of it connected to an impressive, golden spodumene, such as this, which, in turn, allows the entire specimen to stand upright, by itself, is almost unimaginable! This is a highly lustrous and aesthetic specimen in every sense.

Geokrazy Minerals

Welcome to the home of Geokrazy Minerals. Our goal is to supply you with display quality mineral specimens that exhibit the qualities you expect for an unexpected value. We specialize in mid priced minerals from thumbnail to large cabinet sized. Our passion for finding exceptional pieces will be evident to you, and we welcome your feedback and hope you will join our mailing list for future updates.

My philosophy is simple. I only purchase minerals for resale that I would buy for myself . This means they are aesthetic, in very good condition, and would present well in a display case. They must also have inherent value, meaning they are well enough bought to allow them to be sold at retail with some upside potential. I take pride in offering great value.

I have also established a service for selling off collections that has become quite popular. Instead of selling an old collection in bulk I accept the collections on consignment with guaranteed minimums and handle all of the photography, listings and auctioning as well as shipping and handling. The entire process is transparent. There is no risk to the seller and this approach allows the market to decide true value. For higher end material, I am extremely well networked with dealers who work exclusively with high end clientele, and facilitate the best possible returns by targeting known buyers of exclusive specimens. Feel free to ask for details!

Featured Item: Azurite
Geokrazy Minerals Featured Item Location: Touissit, Oujda-Angad Province, Oriental Region Morocco

Size: 5 X 3 X 1.5 cm

Item #: Geo-359

Comments: I was standing in the booth when a fellow approached me with this crystal, saying he has had it for 20 some years and if I was interested in buying it. Uh, YEAH! A simply perfect crystal. These came out about 22 years ago and none comparable since. I saw another at the show, smaller, maybe a tad sharper, with an asking of $2,500.Some contact along the spine running about 2cm, otherwise impeccable. I scored it cheaply enough to keep it under a grand, and this is one superb value. More pictures available upon request.

Now Featured!

December 2nd, 2009

Its that time of year, and to make it a bit easier on your discretionary spending, we are offering the largest across the board discounting we have ever given. For all of December we are offering every specimen currently listed at a full 20% discount. Bear in mind our reputation has been built on offering outstanding value on outstanding specimens, so an additional 20% means you will find many pieces at prices that cannot be matched in the market. Use coupon code XMAS20 at checkout to receive the discount. Be sure to allow me time to confirm availability and shipping rate before paying.

I am also beginning to take specific requests for specimens to find in Tucson. If you dont have the time to go allow me to shop for you! Also, please think of us when you are looking to sell off parts of or all of a collection. We work on a very reasonable consignment contingency and will use both auction venues as well as our website to assist you with getting the full dollar potential in the current market. Feel free to ask for our consignment sales form to review in order to determine if it is right for you!

Greekrocks.com

Greekrocks is an internet store mainly with minerals from Greece, but also from other localities from around the world. We offer exceptional specimens, but also some affordable ones. Our goal is to satisfy collectors with large budgets but also people new to the hobby who want decent specimens in acceptable prices. In our website, you will find many classic minerals which are almost disappeared from the market and also specimens from new localities which are very uncommon. We would also try to find anything our customers would ask for (i.e. Rhodochrosite with Bournonite from Chalkidiki, a very rare Greek combination from a classic locality).

Featured Item: Calcite on Dolomite
Greekrocks.com Featured Item Location: Greece, Macedonia, Chalkdiki, Stratoni, Madem- Lakkos mine

Size: 5.3 x 5 x 3.8cm

Comments: Stacked calcite crystals form nice yellowish clusters on a rhomb of dolomite. Between the rhomb and the calcite another generation of dolomite has grown in crystals which look like narrow bottles. There is some damage but it does not affect the aesthetics of the piece. Interesting specimen from this classic locality.

Hummingbird Minerals

My name is Jim Brown. Although not new to mineral collecting, I am relatively new to the business of selling fine mineral, rock and crystal specimens. I have decided to start my business modestly and build over time. At this stage, I am specializing in cabinet size fine mineral specimens in the price range of $50 to $3,000.

My site has ten (10) galleries of mixed fine mineral specimens. They are truly mixed, as I follow no specific plan in organizing the mixed mineral galleries. If you are like me, I like scrolling through entire sites anyway until something strikes my attention. However, as the site is increasing in size almost every week, I will be adding an alphabetical thumbnail index in the near future to help you quickly find a specific mineral species.

There are also three (3) galleries of Rogerley Mine Fluorite, two (2) galleries of Spanish Fluorite and one (1) gallery of Rhodocrosite. Finally, the site has two (2) Bargain Galleries with 10-30% discounts off original list price. Discounts are also available for purchases of $1,000 or more as well as flexible payment terms for trusted Customers.

Please feel free to make me a reasonable offer for any mineral specimen, if you think the list price is too high (I may say yes) and please provide me feedback on how to improve the Hummingbird Minerals site.

Featured Item: Quartz Crystal Cluster with Ajoite Inclusions
Hummingbird Minerals Location: Messina Mine, Messina District, Limpopo Province, South Africa

Size: 10 x 6 x 5 cm

Item #: C3167

Devonian Depot

Who is this phantom collector you wonder? Well please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a graduate of geosciences from Princeton university and I've been a collector of fossils and minerals since I was a kid. My specialty in my studies is mass extinctions.

I tend to focus on specific fossils as I come into them in my travels. For example; my senior thesis was on Moroccan Devonian environments, and so I suddenly have a massive Moroccan Devonian Trilobite collection. Or another time I interned in Colorado, and eventually ended up with a collection of Colorado minerals and fossils. Anyway, fossil and mineral collecting is my hobby, and this site is here to share some of the more interesting pieces with people who are interested in seeing them.

Earth's Treasures

Earth's Treasures was formed in 1985 by Rick Kennedy while he was a geology student at U.C. Santa Cruz. Originally mostly a field collector with an interest in minerals from the western United States, as the business has expanded, he has specialized in fine minerals and rare gemstones while keeping an affinity for classic localities including his favorite: The Benitoite Gem Mine.

Another aspect of Earth's Treasures business is specimen preparation and evaluation, especially of material from the Benitoite Gem Mine. Samples of our work will are here and most, if not all of the Gem Mine specimens you will see for sale on this site were prepared by Earth's Treasures.

Rick displays his "Rough and Cut" mineral and rare gem display at shows in the west and has given numerous programs to clubs and at shows on a variety of topics.

Erin D. B. Farnsworth; Art

The Arranged Stones series came from a chance encounter with a few attractive stones that I picked up along a walk. I immediately decided not to paint the rocks in their natural environment, but instead wanted to show them against a spare, interior setting. I wanted the subject of the painting to be nothing more or less than the rocks themselves: rocks as still life subjects that I compose and then transform into an interesting painting. I chose also to use watercolor to depict the rocks, in order to show and emphasize their bright, often translucent natural beauty.

Hoff's Rock Shop

It all began in 1952, when my grandfather Vaner Tangborn opened Tangborns' Rock Shop, eight miles south of Bemidji, Minnesota on Highway 71. His was an immense, one-man operation that he ran until 1991, shortly before his death at age 96. He traded, sold, collected, and sometimes gave away amazing amounts of rocks, crystals, and gems. He tumbled, polished, and sawed rocks, and made them into jewelry. He made over 1500 rock tables and shipped them all over the world. Some of his interests were geology, science, Einstein's theories, the age and origins of the universe, and the geologic forces that brought his rocks and fossils into existence. He was a patient teacher to young children, helping them with their rock collections and teaching them to use lapidary equipment. Thousands of people passed through his shop. He also found time to perform music, serve on local boards, and maintained a lifelong interest in politics.
