Marin Mineral Company

Marin Mineral Company is strictly an internet rock shop catering to intermediate to advanced mineral collectors. I strive to offer high quality, aesthetic minerals of a wide range of species from a wide range of locations. I don't have tens or hundreds of any particular mineral but the few I have usually have been "highgraded" from a large lot. I have been collecting minerals for as long as I can remember and have a true love for minerals and mineral collecting. I hope through this website I can pass on some of my enthusiasm for the hobby to others. I regularly attend mineral shows and meet with other dealers, so if you have any special requests please let me know. I'll find what you need and help you put together a great collection!

The web site features more than sixty pages of fine mineral specimens from around the world. Don't forget to bookmark this site and check back often, I update the site frequently!

Mason's Minerals

Offering worldwide quality minerals for collectors of all ages. Free lifetime exchange, flat rate shipping!

We are a family of gem cutters, gemologists, rock hounds, and mineral collectors. Our father, John Mason started the business as Tru Gems in 1982, making and selling rings, necklaces, and the like at shows and festivals around the country. Along the way he became a goldsmith, and his sons became gemologists and lapidaries. With his passing, the tradition of enjoying the minerals of this earth continues. One son works full time as a jewelry buyer and gemologist. The other now runs this website.

    Middle Earth Minerals

Middle Earth Minerals was born of my passion for rocks, so it naturally reflects the minerals that appeal to me. I love mineral specimens that are out-of-the-ordinary: rare species, unusual crystal habits, pseudomorphs, bizarre twinning, uncommon mineral associations, classic and unusual localities, old and historically significant specimens, radioactives, fluorescents, tenebresecents, phosphorescents, and minerals with inclusions, as well as simply outstanding display specimens.

Every mineral has a story to tell, lending extra depth to the experience of owning it. I think you will find many minerals to enhance your collection when you visit my website.

    Item # ECS08

Comments: This specimen has gem crystals of rhodochrosite to 1.2 cm in length. The tips of all the crystals have small cleavages but then 99% of the rhodochrosite specimens ever recovered from the N'Chwaning mine has that same problem... That, and you can't get them in this quality any longer unless a collection is resold. There is a good amount of facet rough in this specimen.

    Mineral Classics

"Mineral Classics", established in 1970, and located near Black Hawk, Colorado, is a leading company dedicated to supplying excellent quality mineral specimens to collectors, museums and anyone interested in the science and hobby of mineralogy. The company founder, Richard A. Kosnar, is a world renowned mineral collector and dealer. In 1993, a new mineral species, KOSNARITE, from Mt. Mica, Auburn, Maine was named in his honor for his contribution to the mineralogical community. He is extremely proud to have a pegmatite species, Potassium Zirconium Phosphate, from Maine bearing his name. (Ref: American Mineralogist, Vol. 78, No. 5 & 6, pgs. 653-656, May/June 1993). Kosnar is listed in The International Directory of Distinguished Leadership published by the American Biographical Institute, 1992.

Today "Mineral Classics" is run by the second generation of Kosnars, Richard's sons Brian and Brett. They are continuing the tradition of providing world class mineral specimens to collectors online, at gem & mineral shows, and with weekly auctions on eBay.

    Size: 12.0 x 9.8 x 9.3 cm

    Item #: EPPAK510

    ex. Richard A. Kosnar

Comments: An incredible group of gem/gemmy, 'sword'-shaped Epidote crystals on 'Byssolite' from Pakistan. The piece looks as close to Austria as it gets. This is one that must be seen in person to truly appreciate it, but as you can see from the photos, it's a very three-dimensional piece with a lot of character, but it's not too busy. The Epidote crystals show intense pleochroism with highly lustrous, striated faces and excellent golden-brown to green color throughout. The rarely seen (for Pakistan), contrasting fibrous Byssolite on the hard Epidotite matrix makes it one of the most distinctive Epidote specimens from Pakistan that we have seen. Of the hundreds of Pakistani Epidotes that have been found, a very small percentage were on matrix, let alone full cabinet sized specimen filled with aesthetically free standing crystals on matrix! If the piece was from the Knappenwand, you could only imagine what it would be worth. With that said, it is a remarkable 'Alpine type' display specimen, and arguably one of if not the finest matrix Epidotes from Pakistan. Great condition overall, as the vast majority of the crystals are damage free.

    Mineralium

We are a young dispatch for minerals, located in the German Sauerland region. Our goal is to provide our customers with high-quality minerals and reliable service.

For us, however, dealing with minerals is not just a business. We would also like to convey a sense of the delight of collecting minerals. If you have a dedication to collecting minerals from childhood on, you are surely aware of the fascination of this passion.

Every mineral is unique and tells its own story. The challenge is to 'make the stones talk'. This is the reason we provide our mineral specimens with a short background report with interesting information on the localities.

The serious collector knows about the importance of reliable and precise documentation of the minerals. Therefore, we set great store on correct mineral determinations according to the official IMA mineral names. We make every possible effort to use precise and detailed descriptions of localities.

If you are interested in building a scientifically valuable collection, you have come to the right place. Our offer helps you to add valuable and attractive pieces to your collection. We are specialized in aesthetically beautiful minerals of thumbnail to cabinet size.

We are constantly searching for new minerals from all over the world, which fulfill the high demands of our customers. Our page is updated frequently, so keep checking our selection and please bookmark us. We take pride in the management of our shop - from careful cleaning to the conscientious packing of the collector's items.

Usually our website is updated every Tuesday evening (MET)

I've been selling rocks and minerals since 1992. It started by accident. I was collecting milky quartz in Connecticut when I hit a vein that a few friends and I followed STRAIGHT DOWN for almost 20 feet (I'm not kidding). We were looking for the best piece for our collection. We wound up with thousands of nice crystals. I still have 5 good specimens from that find, but the others were the start of this business.

    The Mineralogical Record

The principal product of the Mineralogical Record Inc. is The Mineralogical Record magazine, issued six times a year. This is the most authoritative and widely respected mineral collector's journal in the world; no serious advanced collector would be without it. Over the years many newcomers to the field have learned from it the extensive information they need to go from novice to expert—and to have fun in the process. Readers learn about important mineral localities old and new, about the fascinating history of mining and mineralogy, and about new mineral species being described. They see reviews of public and private collections, market reports from contemporary mineral shows, columns on special topics, and oversized special issues devoted to entire mineral-rich states and countries. And all of these articles and features are illustrated by abundant top-quality color photography of fine mineral specimens. (See the Sample Articles page for some typical examples.) Copies of the magazine are never discarded like old newspapers, but are carefully saved and collected as reference works of permanent value.

Current Issue: Vol. 41, No. 4 July - August 2010
    The Mineralogial Record Current Issue
  • The Clay Canyon variscite mine, Fairfield, Utah
  • The Blackbird mine, Lemhi County, Idaho
  • The Weisseck Summit Cleft, Lungau, Salzburg, Austria
  • Featured Item: Smithsonite

Comments: Smithsonite--Think Zinc! is the new entry in the ExtraLapis-English series of books from Lithographie, LLC. In this case it does not appear to be patterned after any previously published German-language edition, but rather is a new, original publication. Like the other books in the series, it is beautifully produced in large format on high-quality paper and with color photos of 161 mineral specimens (plus 16 polished examples and various maps and locality photos). And as usual, the text is interesting and readable, written by a well-chosen group of authors.

We are travelling all year long to collect fine minerals Directly in the source of production. We are travelling in Pakistan & Afghanistan, well kown destinations for worldclass fine minerals such as aquamarine, tourmalines, garnets, apatites and many superb rocks !!! We have been travelling for years in Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia for gems and for classic minerals such as Cobaltoan calcites, cuprites, botroydal & stalactite malachites , chrysocollas, dioptases, Carrollites and more fine minerals...Born in Casablanca, Morocco was a logical destination for hunting minerals.Worldclass fine Azurites, erythrites, vanadnites, accanthites, argentites, were discovered in the past from this superb country.

More recently we went back, years after our late father, to China and to Namibia... Fantastic rocks were found there... Amethyst sceptres, dioptases, fluorites, bournonites, calcites, Beryls...And lots of more fine minerals....We, my brother and I, hope you will enjoy visiting our website.

    Best regards...

    ex Kristalle and Crystal Classics

Comments: Very lustrous bright blue Azurite crystals form a radiating crystal cluster resembling a rose. The crystals are well formed with many sharp crystal faces, with the largest crystals measuring to 10mm length and 12mm width. The crystals are very lustrous, with an overgrowth of Azurite microcrystals adding extra sparkle. These Azurite roses are a floaters, typically forming in a clay matrix. A attractive miniature!

    Museum Style Bases

I would like to introduce my custom mounting service for the display of fine mineral specimens. The purpose of a custom mount is to securely hold specimens at the optimum viewing angle for maximum visual impact. The process involves making a cast of the mineral using a modern durable molding compound. This cast provides a perfectly contoured base which cradles the specimen in a very secure and stable manner. The base is hand trimmed, sanded and painted to be as inconspicuous as possible. Attention to detail at every step of the process gives my bases where seen a crisp, clean look reminiscent of the old museum mounts in the Smithsonian and contemporary mounts at the American Museum Of Natural History. I originally developed this process to display my own specimens, and am now proud to offer it as an alternative to acrylic bases.

    M&W Minerals

Fine mineral specimens. Specializing in minerals from North and South America, rare species, native Copper specimens, Tourmaline, Beryl and Topaz specimens.

    Featured Item: Ruby Corundum
M&W Minerals Location: Mysore District, Karnataka, India

    Size: 9.5 x 8.5 x 6.8 cm

    Item #: 207

Comments: This is an absolute monster of a Ruby crystal. My old-fashion Ohaus triple beam only measures up to 600 g , so I had to use a postage scale (in lbs) and it came to a little less than 2 1/4 lbs. So the weight is approximately 2.2 lbs. or 1 kg. Like many of the Mysore rubies, the color is red with purple tints. Under LW UV, it fluoresces a nice chromatic red. And like most rubies, the specimen must be held close to the UV light source. There is a whitish unidentified material encrusting parts of the specimen which flouresces a light green to light blue. There is also a patch of brown material on the surface of the bottom (last picture) which is also unidentified. The specimen appears to be made up of multiple layers of crystals like poker chips. There are also small black Chromite crystals on the surface.

    Marco Macchieraldo

My name is Marco Macchieraldo, I'm an Italian mineral collector and live in Torino, a big town in the north of Italy near the Alps mountains. I was born in 1959 and collect minerals since 1985. I'm member of the Associazione Piemontese di Mineralogia e Paleontologia (A.P.M.P.). I created this site to show some of the best specimens from my private collection, to public my trade lists of minerals with photographs and to exchange experiences with other collectors.

    Matrix India

We are one of India's oldest mineral dealers, our roots go back to 1953. At that time, we were one of the few dealers in India exporting zeolites. We have been mining since 1970, and in 1977 we mined the famous 'Poona green apophyllite' from our own quarry at the 'Pashan Hill' in Pune, India.

We have progressively mined green apophyllite, scolecite and cavansite from our own sites in Maharashtra, India and hence, we have access to the top grade, the medium and the low grade of these minerals.

Today we are a major mineral company exporting zeolites from the Deccan Traps, and various minerals from India to all corners of the world.

We attend the Tucson and the Munich Show every year.

    Mat's Minerals

As a German mineralogist I spent over 12 years (from 1988 to 2000) in Mexico, where I worked as a geologist in precious metal exploration. Currently I am living in Germany, however I travel to Mexico several times per year, sometimes because I perform a short working contract, but my principal interest is the search of mineral specimens.

Most of the minerals I offer have been purchased directly from the mine personnel, but from time to time I also have the possibility to collect minerals by myself. Although there exist uncountable possibilities to collect minerals in the field or in abandoned mining districts, over 80% of the top quality mineral specimens from Mexico are recovered from active mines. Unfortunately many mines have closed or have reduced their production in the last few years due to extremely low metal prices in the world market, consequently it is getting more and more difficult to find this high quality. Nevertheless I will continue with my efforts in exploring Mexico for the finest mineral specimens. You will find major updates after each Mexico trip and generally the new top specimens appear first on this web page, before I offer them for sale in the mineral shows. I hope you enjoy my mineral galleries.
